Forgery in the Military Archives

Fort de Vincennes, home of the archives of the French Army[1]

Constantin Cheynet inspection recordIn the military archives at Fort de Vincennes, the original general inspection record of Constantin Cheynet for the year 1900 has disappeared and was replaced by a photocopy. It is surprising in itself that the original could have been replaced in this way by a photocopy. But above all, opposite the heading "Foreign languages," one reads: "fluent English (studied at Eton College)."

Constantin could not speak English at all and never set foot in Eton, as that prestigious English school confirmed to us. There is, moreover, no trace indicating that he even made a short journey to the United Kingdom.

This addition can therefore only be a forgery, and it is impossible to know what the original record looked like.
